Rehabilitation Programmes/ACC Training for Independence Programmes

Following injury; we provide training, education and rehabilitation to clients in their own home or community, focused on restoring the client’s independence and ability to participate in everyday life and wider community to the maximum extent practical. Type of Injuries we commonly work with include: Traumatic Brain Injury, Spinal Cord injury, Serious Burns, Multiple fractures, Pain conditions, Sensory and Movement Disorders following injury. Recovery from falls/fractures in the aged population. A wide range of experienced clinicians are available in these rehab programmes:

  • Physiotherapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Speech & Language Therapy
  • Psychology
  • Social Work
  • Nursing
  • Dietitian

What to Expect:

Upon referral from ACC, the clinicians needed to meet the individual’s rehabilitation needs are engaged. Initial planning/assessment sessions with the client are held to establish goals for the rehabilitation to promote recovery and independence. Rehabilitation programme is then carried out in the client’s home and/or community with local resources utilised whenever possible.

  • Our therapists are experienced, they are encouraged to be flexible and innovative in working with the client to gain successful outcomes.
  • Equipment needs are identified and options resourced.
  • Whanau and family are involved and included.
  • Clients are supported throughout the Rehab/Training for Independence programme by the therapists, communication with ACC is important in relaying client’s needs and progress towards successful outcomes.

Training for Independence programmes include:

  • Adults with Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Adults with “Other” Injury
  • Adults with Sensative Claims

Training for Independence Advisory

  • Short term – 8 week programmes.
  • Long term – 12 month programmes.
